Dr. Garber got me in before anyone else would, and he repaired my knee better than anyone else could. I had a lateral bucket-handle meniscus tear, and he made a trustworthy and conscious decision based on my lifestyle and surgery goals. He made room in his schedule for the time sensitive nature of my injury. A few days before surgery, when I called with uncertainty and worry, he made time to reassure me and offer alternative options. In my opinion, the surgery couldn’t have gone better. Once the surgery was over, I had nothing to worry about other than discipled rehabilitation on my half. Thanks Dr. Garber and staff!

Update: I’m now six months post-op and the repair seems to have healed nicely. I’m still strengthening my quad, but my PT expects me to return fully to sports. I’m grateful for having my knee repaired by Dr. Garber.

Dr. Garber did an excellent job on my surgery. No hint of any infection and I healed quickly. But what really impressed me about him was what happened after the surgery. He had sold me a sling for my arm to use after my surgery. When I checked into the hospital, I told the nurse that I had a sling in my backpack. There was a flurry of activity as they prepped me and I forgot to mention it again. When I came out of anesthesia I noticed I had a different sling on. When I told the nurse that I had the wrong sling on, she listened to my story. But at the end, she was apologetic but told me I had to pay for the new sling as I had already used it. I was disappointed for having to purchase two slings but I was not too upset about it. My overall experience was very positive and I took partial responsibility as I felt I should have mentioned it more than once. But when I met with Dr. Garber again and told him the story, he insisted on taking care of it and would have the hospital refund me for the new sling. When I assured him I was not upset about it and that it was not an issue, he looked down and softly said, “But that’s not right”. I was very impressed with his integrity and his honesty. We need more humans like Dr. Garber, let alone doctors. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Garber took plenty of time assessing my injury and properly diagnosing me. He actually listened to me about what was wrong and what my goals were for recovering. My surgery went well and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. He makes you feel like you’re a person , not just a surgical patient. He doesn't just value his surgical outcomes, but how your life will improve.

I was admitted at Poli Momi with a broken left hip fracture on a Sunday afternoon. I was informed that the Orthopedic Doctor will see me the next day. ( This I understand very well since it was a Sunday.)
Usually too no surgery is done on a Sunday unless it is life threatening.

However, Dr. Garber took the time to see me in the hospital that same day and explained to me what he will be doing.
He also scheduled the surgery for the next day. I really appreciated his visit ( he came with his football shirt ) especially at that time when I was in so much pain. It indeed makes a great difference when a Doctor shows so much care and compassion to his patient. That's the kind of Doctor he is. I am so lucky to have him do the surgery on me.

Very happy with my result! Minor scaring, Dr. Was very descriptive of what I needed done. He was also very professional and answered all my questions thoroughly. Dr. Garber staff at the West Oahu location in the OR from the time I entered, until I left showed nothing but aloha. For those who are wondering I had ankle surgery. Because of my fracture I needed Pins & plates put in. I'm just now finishing up PT and have had a wonderful recovery! Being a former Marathon runner I can't wait to be back at it! Thanks to Dr. Garber I can at least Jog for now! 🙂

I was introduced to Dr. Garber after I had broken and destroyed my shoulder Christmas eve 2015. He was the on call Orthopaedic provider for The Queens Medical Center, West when I presented to the Emergency Department with my injury. I went to his office the following Monday and was promptly scheduled for surgical repair on the 1st of January. The surgery in and of itself was a success, the bone and rotator cuff healed very well, however despite physical therapy, my range of motion was not improving due to adhesions. I was then scheduled for a second surgery to release the adhesions. After the second surgery, my improvement was immediate. My range of motion today is 100% of pre injury motion. I could not be happier with this outcome. As a nurse it is imperative that my range of motion be full or near full to be able to complete all duties I need to perform.

Overall fairly bad experience at Doctor Garber's office. I'd called around for a specialist and when I talked to Island Orthopaedics' reception people they said they'd have to call me back to let me know if they worked on my medical issue. Presumably they spoke to the doctor or someone knowledgeable who could answer the question.

They called me back and said they could see me and set an appointment. I scheduled time off work with my manager specifically to go see this "Doctor". When Dr. Garber got in the office he said he didn't work on my issue, and SMILING and half laughing said he'd have no idea what to do to fix it. It was that kind of uncomfortable laugh someone makes when they know they've done something awkward. He wanted to refer me.

Literally his people brought me to the office so he could throw up his hands and refer me to someone else, who also probably could not help me (the referral never called me btw, I wonder if he even referred me). When I spoke to him about medication he said there was nothing that could be done. I had to speak to him a second time about medication before he prescribed something to help me. Why do I have to badger the doctor to do something.. anything.. to help me?

I'm not certain if this office is just in the practice of telling people to come in so they can bill the insurance and patient. I guess it could be that the front desk is just staffed by completely inept folks. However, the paperwork you receive tells you that you will be double charged and receive a bill for surgery even if you didn't have surgery! It looks like it was worded by a 5 year old. That kinda seals the deal for me for if this was all a misunderstanding or if what happened was an intentional attempt to fraudulently bill my insurance, me, and waste my time. The word "Shady" comes to mind. I reported them to my insurer, but they seemed disinterested. Guess insurance companies want to keep paying high bills for medical not provided instead of ferreting out this type of thing.
