My family and I have been seeing Dr. Chen for a few years now, and this review is long overdue. After moving to Culver City, we went through about 4 dentists before finding SmileMax. I love that they are prompt, friendly and clean. It's not the hygienist of the day that cleans your teeth, as it is at many places - it's actually Dr. Chen. And she's more thorough as any dentist I've been to when it comes to cleaning. She really takes her time to do a great job and explain what she's doing. I love her warm manner. She remembers all of us and if you have kids, she's got the cartoons, toys and the gentleness that makes them look forward to going to the dentist. I feel lucky that we found a place we trust and like so close to home.

I also really appreciate the fact that Dr. Chen and the office don't try to upsell you on services unless they're really needed. This is a big pet peeve of mine. All 4 dentists before lobbied hard to sell "deep cleaning" despite the large out of pocket cost.

Gabby and Rosa, who have been with Dr. Chen and with us since we started visiting, are really great as well. Like Dr. Chen, they know and remember our family. They have always been on top of things and super professional. Gabby remembers little details that surprise me about our appointments and the kids. It's nice when you go to a local business that feels like part of your family and neighborhood. Highly recommend SmileMax and their team.

The doctor was good. But you need to be prepared to be overcharged without explanation. Instead of charging my insurance they charged me directly. I have been trying to get itemized receipt for two months, and mostly I was ignored. I sent emails, texts, voice messages and no response. I got there in person a couple of times and they promised to send me it by eod. Same result

Gabby, the office manager at the Culver City Office, overcharged me for a filling 3 months ago. I became aware of this when I received a statement from my insurance company stating the correct fee. I called Gabby to inform her that I was overcharged, and she went into defense mode and said I owed money for the cleaning and xrays. I contacted my insurance company and was told that my cleaning and xrays were covered by my insurance. I had a zero balance. I emailed copies of the insurance statements to Gabby at SmileMax. Gabby said she had to talk to Dr. Linda Chen, the dentist who did the filling and would get back to me. After 2 months and 3 emails Gabby is still giving me the runaround and making excuses not to refund me the difference. In addition to Gabby overcharging me, Dr. Linda Chen who did the filling on my tooth has left me having to change the way I close my mouth and chew my food. My bite is different and uncomfortable. Also I am having a hard time flossing in between teeth that she has worked on. This issue continues to be unresolved and ongoing. Overall bad experience!!!

I am very happy about the services I received at this dental clinic. Everybody was wonderful from the receptionist to the hygienist to the doctors. I had not been in the chair for a few years. But after a couple of visits, my smile is back. They got me in quickly after my insurance assigned them to me. And it 10 days or all of the procedures were done and I am smiling. Thank you, ladies!

So I hadn’t gone to see a dentist in awhile and was slightly terrified to do so, but the kind folks at Smile Max Dental we’re as helpful as they were accommodating, even as I asked them to tell me if my particular dental situation was the worst they’d seen or if worse existed. They assured me that there were worse. Side note: my dentist also tipped me off about possibly having an underlying untreated/undiagnosed medical condition that I would never have thought to ask my doctor about, which was not only thoughtful and perceptive of my dentist, it was also truly kind. If you’re like me and haven’t gone in awhile to see a dentist, and want to check that off your list by visiting a dental office with professional and courteous folks, you couldn’t do better than Smile Max Dental. They I’m sure are also a great option for those with more responsible dental habits.
